NCC finalizes project for Australian customer
Toxfree group is a leading waste management consortium in Australia, servicing a range of clients including those in the oil and gas sector. Related to these services disposal of NORM waste characterized by Radium (Ra-226, Ra-228) isotopes but also Lead isotopes (Pb-210) is a specific challenge.
NCC was commissioned by Toxfree for investigations of world-wide possibilities for disposal of such NORM waste with activity concentrations above 5 Bq/g and maximum activity concentrations up to 400 Bq/g. This project was successfully finalized and covered a comprehensive list of European and other OECD disposal options for NORM, a summary of “Waste Acceptance Criteria” for each of the disposal options and additional information regarding eventually necessary pre-processing requirements. Furthermore, the likely transport requirements have been described.
